Valentin Serov (1865 - 1911)

Serov was, in my very humble opinion, the greatest ever Russian portrait artist.

Sir John Tenniel (1820-1914)

Was a political cartoonist at Punch magazine for most of his creer but is known for his superb illustrations for Lewis Carrolls  - ` Alices Adventures in Wonderland`, `Through the Looking Glass and what Alice found There` and `Jabberwocky`. I never tire of looking at them, grotesque, funny and straight out of a wierd dream world, perfect for those amazing stories.

Hans Holbein the Younger (1497- 1543)

Holbein was a German artist who became the court painter for Henry VIII. He was known for his very precise likenesses. `The Ambassadors` ( can be seen at the Tate) has many symbolic references, including the strange distorted skull. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Holbein_the_Younger

Busy day at Weston Favell Centre in Northampton

Enjoyed drawing these 2 lovely girls at Weston Favell last Saturday. The girl with the bun sat like a statue for me - maybe a career as a model? The girl with the long hair ( OK I did get a bit carried away!) was on her break from working a till at Tesco.
I will be at The Broadwalk in Edgware this weekend - 22nd & 23rd July.Then Luton Mall the next week - 28th & 29th.

Sir Anthony van Dyke (1599-1641)

For my money one of the greatest portrait artists of all time, if not the greatest of them all. He deserved his job as the court painter to King Charles 1st. His triple portrait of him was for Bernini in Rome to help in sculpting a bust.
